Pixxel
A photograph shows a landscape. Pixxel's hyperspectral satellites measure reflected light to help ask what it is made of—and what might be changing.
Why Global58 noticed them
Pixxel makes an editorially interesting choice: it treats the spectrum of reflected light as information, not merely as a better picture. That connects a difficult instrument-building problem to questions about farms, forests and water that matter far beyond the space industry. The launched hardware and released imagery give us something concrete to examine; the claimed applications still deserve scrutiny.
